November is the Oral Health Foundation's Mouth Cancer Action Month. This year the campaign aims to make us all "mouthaware" — knowing the signs of mouth cancer could save your life.
The Most Common Signs
- A mouth ulcer that does not heal within 3 weeks
- A white or red patch in the mouth
- Any unusual lumps in your mouth or jaw area, or any persistent hoarseness
All our dentists routinely check patients for oral cancer at every check-up. If you have any concerns, please contact us.
Throughout November, we are offering a free oral cancer check to everyone — even if you are not normally one of our patients. We are happy to arrange a short appointment with one of our dentists, free of charge, for your peace of mind.
The main risk factors for oral cancer include: smoking or tobacco use, alcohol, UV exposure, HPV, genetics and an unhealthy diet.
